Q-SYS SR-1290 High-Out 12-inch 2-Way Coaxial Cinema Surround Loudspeaker

The SR-1290 is a high-power, compact cinema surround loudspeaker designed to meet the requirements of new immersive sound formats. It features a high-power, long-throw 12” (305 mm) low-frequency transducer with a coaxially-mounted 1.75” (44 mm) titanium diaphragm compression driver. The coaxial alignment of the drivers reduces cabinet size while maximizing output capability and creating a “point source” radiation characteristic for perfectly aligned frequencies through the crossover region, ensuring superior sound quality. The coaxial design also produces a conical dispersion pattern, allowing the enclosure to be rotated without affecting the coverage pattern.

The loudspeaker’s 4-ohm impedance rating enables it to draw more power from the amplifier than an 8-ohm loudspeaker. For object-based audio formats, where each surround loudspeaker requires a separate channel, this ensures maximum output from lower-powered, cost-effective multi-channel amplifiers.

The SR-1290 is designed for safe and secure overhead mounting. The cabinet is constructed from 15-mm Baltic birch plywood with internal bracing for enhanced structural integrity. Six threaded insert mounting points on the rear panel accommodate standard bolt patterns for most third-party brackets. Four centered mounting points allow for the use of a multiple-angle aiming bracket for ceiling applications requiring direct downward aiming. Pre-installed speaker-side hardware enables quick, single-installer wall mounting, with brackets supporting down-angles of 15° (standard) or 23° (optional). A traditional U-bracket (YM-400) is also available.

The SR-1290 features a compact black enclosure with styling consistent with other SR family surround loudspeakers, enabling a cohesive aesthetic when combining models, such as using SR-1290 in front-screen locations and SR-1030 on side and rear walls.
