Robe

Robe’s roots can be traced back to when Ladislav Petrek began importing PAR cans, mirror balls, and various other pieces of lighting equipment from Germany into what was then known as Czechoslovakia, and spotted a growing market for lighting installations taking shape post Velvet Revolution. This led to Ladislav starting to design and build sound activated lighting effects that were then marketed through his company ProLux. Josef Valchar was recruited as a Sales Manager and in 1993 the pair started to design their first Scans. Valchar had his sights squarely set on developing an entire product range and selling into other parts of Europe. Robe Show Lighting was born in 1994.

Robe’s first Frankfurt ProLight & Sound exhibition scored their first OEM customer – Steinigke Showtechnic GmbH. Robe’s initial products were scanners and sound activated fixtures. Also their ‘Dominator’ effect broke new ground in using the first generation of servo motors, and all Robe products were made DMX controllable from this point onwards. Rimini 1995 saw the launch of new scanners, using the first generation of stepper motors – upping the success and reliability stakes.

A period of steady and sustainable growth culminated in the next technological breakthrough – the introduction of the 250 Spot and Wash moving heads in 1999. After bringing these products to the market, Robe was approached by Coemar to produce an entire range of products under the TAS brand name, which was launched at PLASA that year as the “Millennium” range. This quality and cost-effective product proved a massive success, and also introduced Robe to a whole new strata of clients.

PLASA 2002 saw the launch of Robe‘s latest generation of moving lights – the AT (Advanced Technology) Series which was to become a flagship product during the first decade of the 21st century. Robe’s distributor network expanded to include over 50 countries. In 2003, Robe’s ColorSpot and ColorWash 1200 AT Series was launched and fast became one of its most popular products, and a cornerstone of the AT Series. 2006 saw the launch of the powerful ColorSpot 2500E AT fixture, Robe’s largest spot fixture to date. PLASA brought 12 dynamic new products including the StageQube 324 and the 700 Series of moving lights.

The SilverScan, released in 2019, highlights 25 years of Robe lighting’s continuing commitment to utilizing the newest technologies. This product also embraced the very roots of moving light design as a small, good-looking performance-based LED scan. The ESPRITE, launched later in 2019, represents another truly revolutionary product. It is the first high powered and refined LED profile moving light to have a fully transferable LED light engine, plus many other innovative features. The ESPRITE embraces Robe’s spirit of innovation and determination to ensure that products remain ground-breaking and relevant in a highly competitive marketplace. Robe’s ground-breaking TRANSFERABLE ENGINE technology offers a choice of white source LED engines for a range of premium products. HP (High Performance) is for those requiring maximum output. HCF (High Colour Fidelity) for when color rendition is paramount, or TGW (Tungsten White) which gives a warmer, more classic theatrical feel.
