JBL 2226H 380 mm (15 in) Low Frequency Transducer
The 2226G/H/J low frequencytransducer represents the results ofJBL’s latest engineering research inhigh power transducer design. The2226G/H/J signifies a major advancein speaker design by incorporatingJBL’s patented Vented Gap Cooling technology in an improved Symmetrical Field Geometry (SFG) magneticstructure.
To increase power handling whilereducing power compression, JBLengineers have created a unique, direct voice coil-to-air heat dissipationmethod called Vented Gap Cooling. This process pumps air through themagnetic gap and directly over andaround the voice coil to provideimmediate heat transfer and reductionin operating temperature - a directimprovement in power compression.
The 2226G/H/J incorporates animproved SFG (Symmetrical FieldGeometry) magnetic structure.Computer-aided magnet optimizationand analysis has allowed JBL engineers to optimize both magnet weightand flux density so that the 2226G/H/Jis not only 1.5 kg (3.25 lb) lighter thanits predecessor, but has reduced distortion as well. This new magnetstructure offers much of the weightadvantage of rare earth magnet structures without their prohibitive cost.
Increased power handling also requires greatermechanical integrity. A new cone design greatly improvescone strength and stiffness-to-weight ratio through theuse of a new glass fiber/paper composite cone material.A new surround topology and edge damping treatmentallow greater linear excursion for matched power anddisplacement levels. The voice coil benefits from a newwinding technique which offers greater power handlingand thermal stability. All design aspects of the surround, cone and voice coil have been carefully optimized andcontrolled to provide smooth and extended highfrequency response.
The 2226G/H/J can directly retrofit the 2225H/J transducer without enclosure re-tuning while providing up to4 dB more acoustic output with lower levels of distortion. The high power handling and robust construction ofthe 2226G/H/J make it a natural for tour sound and fixedsound reinforcement use, while the low distortion andsmooth response make it an ideal choice for critical highlevel monitoring applications.
