Fritz Sennheiser started the company in 1945, with the venture initially founded in a farmhouse near Hanover. Fritz Sennheiser soon developed fast-growing business opportunities, utilizing the knowledge and skill set that he attainedd in his prior scientific career to respond to a high demand for measuring devices and microphones.
The MD 82, the first shotgun microphone, was created in 1956. Shortly after, At the beginning of the 1960s, Sennheiser began, in earnest, research and development in the field of condenser microphone technology, a bridge to further applications in recording audio for film sets and TV studios.
In 1957, a wireless microphone system for professional TV use was introduced, developed in partnership with NDR. This wireless system was marketed alongside Telefunken from 1958 as “Microport”.
