MA Lighting

Since being founded in 1983 by Michael Adenau, MA Lighting has had a two prong approach - MA Lighting Technology in Waldbuettelbrunn, the center for production, research and development and MA Lighting International located in the town of Paderborn – the marketing, distribution and technical support hub. MA Lighting has the philosophy that the whole is much bigger than the sum of its parts. Each of their individual products are fully developed to stand on their own, powerful and extremely competitive, but as a complete MA system, the combined MA components build a synergy that is absolutely unrivaled on the market. MA Lighting has become an international leader in computer-controlled lighting consoles as well as networking components. With a commitment to innovation, MA Lighting meets the growing demands of a constantly changing industry and develops product solutions with an eye toward the future.
In only its first few years as a company, MA Lighting made serious waves with the introduction of the Lightcommander 24 and Lightcommander 48 control desks, both featuring real level memory. When it was launched in 1992, the MA Scancommander caused quite a stir in the emerging world of moving light control. This product established MA Lighting as a leading innovator of lighting control within the global touring and event sectors.

In the spring of 1997 MA introduced the eagerly awaited grandMA console to the world. Based on both the MA Scancommander and Lighcommander, this hybrid lighting control console brought a new level of hardware sophistication to the lighting world. The full color touch screens, motorized faders, built in UPS (uninterruptible power supply) and hard drive are its most memorable features. It was in the summer of 2000 when MA launched a variety of new products: the grandMA light, the grandMA replay unit, and the grandMA offline editor. In the autumn of 2001, the grandMA range was completed with the introduction of the grandMA ultra-light.
For the introduction of the grandMA2 series, MA Lighting received extensive praise. During the development of the grandMA2, MA Lighting listened closely to the market and kept the intuitive grandMA “series 1” control philosophy including the same command line. The software was optimized and the display was simplified for more clarity, providing an even faster experience and a more comfortable working environment.

In January 2018, MA Lighting presented the grandMA3 series, a radical retooling of what’s possible from a lighting control platform. The new system-architecture incorporated new fixture, feature, and upgraded effects-handling. Utilizing a flexible new fixture concept, the grandMA3 control software was developed to replicate the real-world physical components of the most complex fixtures. Fixture information is now generic and allows simpler sharing of programmed data between fixtures. A consistent theme for MA Lighting consoles is connectivity, and the grandMA3 console is no exception. All console variants come with a full set of hardware connections suitable for MIDI, LTC, Audio IN and OUT, local Trigger inputs and multiple Ethernet connections for expanded functionality.
