Royer Labs R122 Active Ribbon Microphone
The original Royer Labs R-122 was introduced in 2002 as the world's first phantom-powered, active ribbon microphone.
Key Features of the Original R-122
- Active Circuitry: Uses +48V phantom power to run a balanced FET amplifier and a custom toroidal transformer, providing higher output (+14 dB over the passive R-121) and active impedance matching.
- Ribbon Motor: Shares the same figure-8 polar pattern and basic ribbon transducer design as the passive Royer R-121, but delivers a faster transient response and tighter low-end response.
- Preamp Compatibility: High output allows it to work cleanly with virtually any microphone preamplifier without needing high-gain, low-noise preamps usually required by passive ribbon mics.
